Titanic Marconi Key 3D Reconstruction and Animation

After researching a Titanic VR game (David Whelan) for my case study presentation, I decided to investigate CG methods of preserving an artefact from the wreck of the Titanic. I decided to explore a White Star Line Marconi brass key that I found on the official Titanic Museum website archives (https://www.titanicmuseum.org). This is primarily since the real Titanic artefact is no longer recoverable from the wreckage and, if not restored digitally from a nearly identical artefact, will be lost forever. Although this is not the official artefact from the Titanic, it is said to be almost identical to the one used on the Titanic. Modelled in Maya and Zbrush, textured in photoshop and substance painter, and animated/lit/rendered in Maya with Vray.

3D animation explaining how this key works and how it was used on the Titanic's fatal last night.
